Happy Easter

Happy Easter Everyone!!! It's been an awful week around here.  Ash was so sick we had her at the hospital getting fluids pumped into her and everyone is just now coming around.  We had a really nice Easter picnic with my family yesterday it seems like it was one of the first sunny days in weeks.  We are actually expecting cold and rain again this week.

Hopefully it will get nice enough to get our garden planted.  We've done the initial start of our clean up but we've got another raised bed to build and fill and I've decided to make my front yard flower area into an herb garden.  I use a lot of herbs when I cook and I always dry some to use for winter.  I'm thinking about putting in rosemary, english thyme and lemon thyme, Thai basil and regular basil, greek oregano, chives, lemongrass, mint, maybe some lavender and maybe some flat leaf parsley.  Is there anything I'm missing?  I'd love suggestions.  We're putting in a ton of heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, cantaloupe, maybe a small watermelon, a bunch of different peppers, some hot some sweet. We planted heirloom carrots today and tomorrow I'll plant english breakfast radish and a mixed lettuce if the weather will cooperate. I'd like to try a few unusual items so if you know of anything fun and tasty I'd love to hear suggestions.

Tarragon. No herb garden is complete without tarragon. Also sage. There are seveal different varieties. I like the Mexican sage (blooms in late fall with purple and white flowers) and variegated sage. I love herb gardens. They come back every year and the bees love them!

DILL!!! Dill is so awesome! I use it all the time! I wish I could grow a veggie garden...not only do I not have enough space to put one in, but I soooo dont seem to have a green thumb when it comes to growing edibles! Flowers, plants, I can do...edibles, not so much... and I am POSITIVE they are easier to grow at least, thats what I hear lol ;)

I agree with the last two posts though Bill and I aren't exactly herb garden experts. We DID, however had som very smal grape tomatoes pop up out of nowhere a month or so ago...and we think it's because out construction workers were eating sandwiches and the tomato seeds dropped in to the ground...but it's now got us going on an herb garden around the new found one -- basil, tomato, and not an herb but papaya! We'll see how that goes. I'll try post some photos!

I am so jealous that you are already planting. I think our last snow pile just melted.

We are planting 2 more raised gardens this year-- so excited!!!

Don't be jealous, it's still cold as hell here! Good thing I only planted cold weather plants as we hit freezing temps again last night.
